Sarasota city leaders want review of botched Lift Station 87 sewer project

SARASOTA — For nearly two decades, the city of Sarasota has been immersed in an ongoing sewage control saga that involved massive pollution, a shakeup at City Hall, litigation, rising utilities costs and outraged residents.

But now, as construction of the long-delayed, over-budget Lift Station 87 project nears an end, city leaders want answers to how things went so wrong.

For Commissioner Hagen Brody, those answers would be a “small step” toward re-instilling the community’s trust in city government.
