Proposed gated community causes concern among some Cape Coral residents about boating traffic

CAPE CORAL – Some residents in Northwest Cape Coral are concerned about their waterways after signs went up about a new gated community that could be built.

If the project is approved, the North Cape Estates development would be built near Gulfstream Parkway and NW 42nd Place. Developers said there would be around 16 or 17 lots in the community.

Neighbors said they are worried the new development could increase boat traffic along the Northwest Spreader, causing congestion or making it dangerous.

“The fact that all the boats have to go through the same direction, having to go through Matlacha Pass, means that it’s somewhat unsafe because of heavy traffic,” Cape Coral resident Joel Elder said. “I think it’s really going to overwhelm the area.”

Residents said they wanted the city to add another access point.
