Work to replace Lee County’s Punta Rassa boat ramp to begin Aug. 22

FORT MYERS – Work to replace the Punta Rassa boat ramp is scheduled to begin Monday, Aug. 22, and two of the four lanes will be open for much of the next three months. Occasional closings for all ramp lanes may also be scheduled for safety. During construction, the Lee County Parking Sticker will be honored at the City of Sanibel boat ramp; just across the Sanibel Causeway from the Punta Rassa Ramp – so boaters with stickers have the option to pay the bridge toll and use that ramp without paying its meter fee.

The project, which includes new docks in addition to the launching ramp, will be paid for with funds from state recreational vessel registration fees. Signs about lane closings and construction will be posted in advance of the work. Construction is expected to be completed by Thanksgiving.

Punta Rassa is Lee County Parks & Recreation’s most-used boat ramp. The site features two double ramps with a large staging area. Other amenities include a fish cleaning station, ice vending machine, restrooms, vehicle/trailer combination parking spaces along with single-vehicle parking spaces. The ramp is at 15001 Punta Rassa Road, Fort Myers. Visit www.leeparks.org for more information.

Parking fees are $10 for 24 hours, $20 for 48 hours or $30 for 72 hours. Boaters can purchase an annual parking sticker online or by calling 239-533-7275.
