Foundation awards grant for on-island garden

The Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation is one of five organizations to receive a Viva Florida Landscape Demonstration Garden grant from the Florida Wildflower Foundation this year.

A wetland demonstration garden - a first for the Viva Florida program - will be established at the Native Landscapes & Garden Center at the Bailey Homestead Preserve.

It will showcase wetland and littoral plants, such as bulltongue arrowhead, cardinal flower, marsh pink, rattlesnake master and spotted water hemlock, and will include a raised boardwalk, allowing visitors to more closely view the plants.

The garden will also be accessible via the Shipley and Pond Apple trails.
