Health advisory released after algae found in Cape Coral canal
CAPE CORAL – The Florida Department of Health released a health advisory Tuesday after algae was found in a canal in Cape Coral.
According to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, officials found algae in the Shaughnessey Canal on Monday, Sept. 14.
Health officials are now recommending boaters avoid contact with the water.
Blue-green algae can cause health problems if swallowed, such as gastrointestinal effects.
