North Port Utilities awarded three Florida Water Environment Association honors

The City of North Port’s Utilities Department was presented with three awards by the Florida Water Environment Association (FWEA) on Tuesday, April 27. The statewide organization recognizes meritorious achievements of both individuals and organizations serving the water and wastewater needs of Florida residents.

This year, North Port Utilities (NPU) achieved second place in the Earle B. Phelps Award for Outstanding Wastewater Treatment Facilities performance. The Phelps award recognizes wastewater treatment facilities which have maintained the highest removal of pollution-causing constituents prior to discharge of treated effluent.

Additionally, the North Port Wastewater Treatment Plan in the Class B category received the second place Safety Award for utilities who maintain exemplary safety programs.

North Port Utilities also brought home first place in the Biosolids Program Excellence Awards for Technology Innovation and Development which recognizes excellence in biosolids management, recognizing and promoting the safe management, public acceptance and beneficial use of biosolids.

From our plant operators, to our collection and distribution technicians, our administrative staff, to our leadership, we work together seamlessly to provide the best service we possibly can to our customers. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished here at our treatment facility,” said Marc Beauregard, Wastewater Superintendent.

North Port Utilities is a long-time member of the FWEA, a Water Environment Federation (WEF) member association. NPU was the 2020 recipient of the Earle B. Phelps Award, David W.
