Cape Coral Weighs Benefits of Rubican-Bimini Canal Link

Further study is needed to estimate the financial benefits for property owners and municipal taxes before the City of Cape Coral moves forward with a plan to connect the Rubican Canal with Bimini Basin, a Cape Coral city official said Tuesday.

Building a canal to connect the two waterways has the potential increase waterfront property values and by extension, property tax revenue, by shortening travel time to the Caloosahatchee River for boaters. In addition to cloudy financial data, no environmental assessment of the plan has yet been performed.
