Port Charlotte community concerned over canal waste

A Port Charlotte community says road construction is sending hazardous materials into a canal in their backyard -- harming wildlife and their quality of life.

The canal runs along Hariet Street near Midway Boulevard. That community is now pushing for answers from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.

Neighbors tell us the slime in the water was coming out of the storm drains. They say ever since construction began on their street their canal has totally changed.

Concerned neighbors are now reaching out to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection for something to be done.
