Bonita Springs considers ways to pay for flood prevention
Flood reduction projects were again the number one discussion at the Bonita Springs City Council on Wednesday.
Jim Beever, of the Southwest Florida Regional Planning Council and whom the city hired to create a list of ways to reduce flooding, returned and offered a nearly finalized offering of project ideas. The final costs of those projects are still in the works.
Beever, along with employees from J.R. Evans Engineering and from Aptim, offered several ways to get funding for these projects, including the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
FEMA has several dozen individual subjects ranging from flood mitigation to property acquisition and structure elevation.
Lee County can offer direct funding for projects, too. The county has asked for a list of projects to be submitted by each municipality.
