Latest update for the reclaimed water pipeline from Fort Myers to Cape Coral

With all the rain we have had in Southwest Florida lately, it’s hard to even think about needing water right now but Cape Coral’s charging ahead with a plan to pipe treated wastewater from Fort Myers over to Cape Coral to use for irrigation.

The treated wastewater will keep your lawn green instead of just going directly into the river.

The water would be pumped from Fort Myers into the Cape’s already existing reclaimed irrigation water system around the city, reducing the need to pump water from canals which can get dangerously low during the dry season.

Cape Coral has already received money for the program but just learned millions more is available. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection has $25 million to fund projects like this.
