City Commission Approves Amendment for Warm Mineral Springs Park Master Plan Phase II

On February 25, 2020, the North Port City Commission approved the First Amendment to Agreement No. 2017-40 with Kimley-Horn & Associates, Inc. in the amount of $1,374,125. The agreement includes the professional design and engineering services for Phase II of the Warm Mineral Springs Park Master Plan.

“The City recognizes the historical significance of the site and the buildings and we are excited to get started on the next phase of the Warm Mineral Springs Park Master Plan,” said Sandy Pfundheller, Parks & Recreation Director. “The historic restoration of these buildings will not only preserve an important cultural resource but will ultimately enhance the visitor experience to this international attraction that received more than 117,000 visits last year.”

The Master Plan was adopted by the City Commission in April of 2019 and includes a comprehensive analysis of the entire 81.6-acre park. It provides recommendations for future services and amenities to be implemented in phases, pending available funding sources and Commission approval. The plan includes future walking trails, lookout towers and canopy walk, an education center, plaza/market area, picnic pavilions, and improved parking. A large portion of the Master Plan’s development included an award-winning comprehensive community outreach program.

Phase II services are scheduled to begin March 5, 2020 and include the design and engineering for the historic restoration of the existing buildings and utility infrastructure improvements. The buildings, which were constructed in 1959 as part of the Florida Quadricentennial celebration, as well as the Springs, are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
