Cape Coral combats blue-green algae

Cape Coral logo

Blue-green algae was identified in Cape Coral's Rubican Canal System and City-contracted crews have treated the area using an environmentally safe hydrogen peroxide-based algaecide. City staff will retest the canal system to evaluate the effectiveness of this treatment and continue monitoring other affected areas in the City.

The city of Cape Coral will host a media interview today at 12:15 near the Rubican Canal on Southeast 40th Street between Country Club Boulevard and Southeast 11th Avenue. Media must RSVP to KMullen@CapeCoral.gov.

City officials encourage the public to exercise caution when near any waterway. For information on reported algae blooms in Florida, visit the state’s Algal Bloom Dashboard.
