Your help is needed!
Please help CHNEP collect Hurricanes Milton and Helene High Water information
First and foremost, we hope you and your families are safe and suffered minimal damage at home. Hurricane Milton on the heels of Hurricane Helene has been devasting for so many throughout the CHNEP area and now regional recovery efforts are underway.
We here at CHNEP are springing into action to gather time-sensitive water level data from Hurricanes Milton and Helene. It is critical to document this information in order to improve future storm surge and flood forecasting.
Please help us collect and report high water marks in your area. Water marks disappear quickly, so time is of the essence. Each entry should only take 1-2 minutes. All that is needed is a measuring tape and your cell phone (ideally with location services turned on to automatically add your location). You can simply scan the QR code (below) or click on the link below to get started, clicking on the Open in Browser button. Detailed Instructions are also available.
This information will be used to create a publicly available map of water levels during each hurricane to understand how they affected our region and to build better predictive models for future hurricanes and other storm events.
Please also share the survey with your friends and family and encourage them to take a few minutes to capture and share this critical flood stage data. You can also visit the Hurricane webpage on the CHNEP website to find state and federal recovery information and resources as those become available, as well as scientific data being collected to these storm events - such as the above referenced high-water map.
Wishing you safety and timely full recovery, the CHNEP staff
