Additional restrictions may be enforced to improve the levels of the Mid-Hawthorne Aquifer.
City Manager Mike Ilczyszyn said staff had a meeting with the South Florida Water Management District regarding the aquifer this week. This aquifer, which is approximately 125 feet underground, provides water to private wells in the area.
The aquifer has not recovered though irrigation restrictions and enhanced restrictions on water consumption were imposed.
“There is concern if we see a drop off come dry season over the upcoming months, we could be entering into an area to take further measures,” Ilczyszyn said.
The city will have a follow-up meeting with the South Florida Water Management District in two weeks to discuss what measures may be on the table for consideration.
